WoW Forever Open Results: Warlocks Lead as Blizzard Updates PvP

Posted on October 20, 2026

The WoW Forever Open ended with Warlock Guy claiming first place and a $50,000 prize, while Warlocks delivered the strongest class performance in the level-30 dueling competition. Blizzard also supported the community-run tournament by opening a dedicated dueling area ahead of schedule and adding vendors to help the event run smoothly.

The tournament headlines arrive alongside several important beta developments: a stress test moved to October 21, separate matchmaking for full premade PvP groups, ongoing layering concerns, and upgrades to selected starting-zone loot. Here is a breakdown of the results and updates reported as of October 19, 2026.

WoW Forever Open Results: Warlock Guy Wins the Final

Warlock Guy entered the competition as the 20th seed and defeated fellow Warlock Nepzen 3–1 in the best-of-five final. The community-organized tournament featured a $100,000 prize pool, with $50,000 awarded to the winner.

Warlocks did more than secure both spots in the final. Three finished in the top eight, and the class recorded 26 wins from 33 reported duels—approximately a 79% win rate. Mages finished at the opposite end of the reported results, winning four of 16 duels for a 25% win rate.

These figures describe this particular level-30 competition, rather than a comprehensive ranking of class strength across every PvP format.

What the Results Mean for WoW Forever Class Balance

Warlocks were the clear tournament standouts, but the level cap matters when interpreting their success. At level 30, opponents have fewer tools to answer fear effects and sustained damage, while other classes have yet to acquire parts of their later-level toolkit.

The format matters, too. A structured one-on-one duel tests a different set of strengths than a battleground or an unpredictable world PvP encounter. Strong tournament results therefore support a narrower conclusion: Warlocks performed exceptionally well under these specific conditions. They do not, by themselves, establish how the class will perform at level 60 or in group combat.

As of the October 19 update, no post-tournament Blizzard balance announcement had been reported. A possible future level-60 competition was discussed, but it was not presented as a confirmed event.

Blizzard Opens a Dueling Area for the Tournament

One of the most notable developments was Blizzard’s practical support for the competition. The company opened a previously inaccessible crater area intended for dueling and added vendors to accommodate participants. The tournament’s second day took place in the newly accessible space.

This response should be distinguished from a balance intervention. Blizzard helped provide a venue and infrastructure for a community-run event; that does not mean it announced class changes in response to the final standings.

WoW Forever Stress Test Moves to October 21

The WoW Forever stress test was rescheduled to October 21, the same date identified as the end of the beta period. The reported launch target remained November 4. For a broader overview of what is planned beyond the beta, see the release date and roadmap.

Access to the stress test was described as broadly available, without requiring the previously offered $60 pack. Installation was directed through the World of Warcraft launcher. Players who expected the test to take place over the preceding weekend had not missed it—the schedule had changed.

PvP Matchmaking Separates Premades From Pugs

Full premade PvP groups are set to face other premades rather than pick-up groups, commonly called pugs. The stated approach separates organized teams from players entering through less coordinated matchmaking.

The unresolved detail concerns smaller groups of friends. Blizzard was still working on how parties of two or three players would fit into the system, so the full-premade rule should not be treated as a finalized explanation of every party-size scenario.

For players following WoW Forever PvP, that distinction is important: the broad matchmaking direction has been described, but some implementation details remain open.

Layering Remains a World PvP Concern

Layering was another prominent beta issue. WoW Forever was described as using large shared server populations divided into separate layers, meaning players in the same game mode may not always occupy the same version of an area.

The concern centers on transitions between those layers. Reported examples showed nearby players appearing or disappearing after small movements, including around active world PvP encounters and dungeon approaches. Such transitions can interrupt fights and make it difficult to tell whether an opponent has escaped or simply moved to another layer.

A warning message had been added to notify players of an approaching layer transition. That improves visibility into what is happening, but it should not be confused with confirmation that the underlying problems have been resolved. Layering remained a work in progress in the October 19 update.

Datamined Cosmetics Are Not Confirmed Content

Recently discovered pets, armor appearances, and other cosmetic assets prompted questions about WoW Forever’s visual direction. Blizzard’s reported clarification was that some assets had been associated with the wrong game mode and were not intended for WoW Forever.

The key distinction is between an asset appearing in game data and an announced release feature. The disputed discoveries should not be presented as confirmed additions or proof of a change to the game’s classic-inspired art direction.

Selected Starting-Zone Items Receive Stat Upgrades

Some early-game items in Elwynn Forest and Dun Morogh were changed from white-quality items to green-quality items, gaining small stat bonuses in the process. The changes affected selected drops rather than every item in those zones.

The update makes certain early encounters more rewarding by giving their loot additional practical value during leveling. Although smaller in scope than the PvP and server-system changes, these adjustments show that starting-zone rewards were also receiving attention during the beta.

What to Watch Before Launch

The most consequential outstanding questions concern layering reliability, matchmaking for small parties, and how class performance changes beyond level 30. The October 21 stress test provides another testing milestone, while any future level-60 competition would offer a different basis for assessing PvP balance. As launch approaches, players may also be thinking about leveling expenses, equipment upgrades, and WoW Forever Gold as part of their resource planning. For now, the tournament results are best understood as a strong snapshot of low-level dueling—not a final verdict on the endgame.
